Local Fun Runs, Charity Walks and Fitness Events Coming Up
Scottsdale organizers schedule multiple group exercise opportunities along city paths and plazas through the end of July.
How we reported this

Three community fitness events open registration this week in Scottsdale, giving residents options for early-morning runs and charity walks before peak summer heat sets in.
City recreation staff moved several annual gatherings forward after participant feedback showed preference for July dates that avoid August monsoon disruptions. Local turnout for group activities has risen steadily, with the Scottsdale Parks and Recreation Department reporting 1,200 registered participants across similar events in 2025 compared with 950 the prior year.
The Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza at 3939 N Drinkwater Blvd will serve as the start line for a 5K fun run on July 15 that loops through Old Town streets and returns along Scottsdale Road. A separate charity walk organized by the Scottsdale Community Foundation begins at the McCormick Ranch waterfront on July 22 and follows the Arizona Canal path for three miles, with proceeds directed to youth fitness grants in the 85258 zip code.
Event Details and Costs
Entry for the July 15 run costs $30 online through the city portal, while the July 22 walk charges $25 and includes a commemorative water bottle. Both events begin at 6:30 a.m. to keep participants off exposed pavement during midday temperatures that routinely exceed 105 degrees. The third event, a neighborhood group fitness circuit at Chaparral Park on July 28, requires no fee but asks attendees to bring their own mats for the 45-minute session led by city-certified instructors.
Organizers selected routes that stay within established neighborhoods such as McCormick Ranch and the area near Indian Bend Wash to minimize traffic interference and allow easy access from nearby bus stops on Scottsdale Road.
Registration and Preparation
Residents can sign up through the Scottsdale Parks and Recreation website or at the Civic Center information desk until 5 p.m. the day before each event. Volunteers recommend bringing a refillable bottle and wearing light-colored clothing, with shaded rest stations placed every mile on the longer routes. Those new to group exercise can arrive 15 minutes early for a brief orientation at the start location.
